BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

VICENTE FERRER GUASCH (Sant Antoni de Portmany, Ibiza, 1917 - Ibiza, 2008).
"Ibiza", 1977.
Oil on canvas.
Signed and dated in the lower left corner.
Measurements: 65 x 92 cm; 75 x 102 cm (frame).

The plastic language of Vicente Ferrer Guasch develops in the field of a personal metaphysical painting based on the representation of the geometric volumes and the white tonalities of the popular Ibizan architecture.

Ferrer Guasch was initiated in painting by Narcís Puget, during his high school years, and later moved to Barcelona to study teaching. Illness and the outbreak of the Civil War forced him to abandon his studies, and in 1939 he moved to Menorca. After the war, Ferrer Guasch finished his teaching studies and, in 1946, his painting studies at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de Sant Jordi. Between 1962 and 1982 he held the position of professor of drawing at the Institute of Ibiza, combining teaching with artistic practice. Throughout his career he was awarded the Josep Masriera landscape prize of the Academy of Sant Jordi (1952), the Mallorca prize of the Provincial Council of the Balearic Islands (1964), the gold medal of the Salón de Otoño del Círculo de Bellas Artes de Palma (1964), the Importante prize of the "Diario de Ibiza" and the commendation of the Order of Isabel la Católica (1999). He also devoted himself to photography, with works that were exhibited in a posthumous exhibition. He is currently represented in numerous art collections, including the Museum of Contemporary Art of Ibiza, the Conde de Godó collection, the J. A. Samaranch collection and the Artistic Fund of the Caixa de Pensions de Barcelona.
