JUAN JOSÉ BARBERÁ, (Valencia, 1954).

Juan José Barberá studied at the Polytechnic University of Valencia and later expanded his training at the International School of Fresco Painting in Sant Cugat del Vallès. His career began with recognition right from the start: a scholarship from the Valencian government allowed him to paint and focus his work in this area in Madrid. In this city he was associated with the so-called "Madrid School" because of his style. However, over time his style was changing, thanks, above all, to experimentation with new materials, which modify and help him to find a new style, and in this evolution have had much to do with exchanges with other artists (A. R. Penck, Neo Rauch ...). Thus, it has been possible to see an evolution towards German Expressionism and Italian Transvanguardia, to end up in a very personal concept of work, where the pictorial and objects are synchronized with a narrative that is quite reminiscent of biographical Surrealism, with great intimacy and depth. He has worked as a teacher at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (in the Painting Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts of San Carlos).
He stood out in the Spanish artistic Postmodernism of the 1980s. His work has been exhibited in Valencia, Essen, Burjassot, Dénia, Perpignan, Valencia, Hamburg, etc., and is kept in important private collections and in some institutions (Museu d'Art Contemporani Vicente Aguilera Cerni, Museo Centro Vasco de Arte Contemporáneo in Vitoria-Gasteiz...).
