Female portrait of realistic character, in which the author shows the image of a young woman. This one is seated on a sober floor, with the glance crestfallen and holding a candle. The element of the candle, the pots, the table with the fabrics and the clothes that the young woman is wearing, relate the work to an image of costumbrista character, showing a popular woman. It is worth noting the play of light and shadow that has a certain baroque heritage, by directing the light from the right, leaving the face partially illuminated. A lighting that offers a greater possibility of building an intimacy with the person portrayed and imaginatively molding the lived experience.
Daniel G. Poblete studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Madrid, where in 1958 he won the Extraordinary Prize for Drawing. He then furthered his studies at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Fernando. He began working as a copyist at the Prado Museum when he was only fifteen. His work is characterized by a realistic aesthetic, in which he dominates both drawing and color. Interested in capturing the qualities, his technique is revealed to the viewer through a great mastery. His works include portraits as well as scenes of imaginary or constructed character, sometimes showing scenes of Arab inspiration. Throughout his career, Poblete has held numerous exhibitions in Madrid and other Spanish cities, as well as in the United States, France, England, Mexico, Australia and Mexico, and Venezuela, among others. Exhibitions that he has combined with his work as a teacher.
