Artist of self-taught formation, Checa began his career with the group Pont de Fusta. In his first years he will obtain the first prize of the Fast Painting Contest of Valencia, and from that moment he bursts in the plastic world with overwhelming force. Since then he will be known, praised and imitated. He exhibited his work since 1973, when he made his debut at the Valencian Press Association. The following year he held his first individual exhibition at the Hoyo Gallery in Valencia. Checa usually paints from life and reinterprets what he sees, later retouching in the studio respecting the first impressions. He has been awarded the First National Gold Medal of Tabacalera de Pintura (1981, 1982 and 1983) and the First Prize for Outdoor and Fast Painting in Sot de Chera (1982 and 1984), and in 1985 he was selected in the Caja de Ahorros de Pintores Valencianos Book of Valencian Painters.
