BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
PEDRO DE VALENCIA (Valencia, 1902 - 1971).
"Day of communion", 1942.
Oil on canvas.
Signed and dated in the upper right corner.
Measurements: 46 x 61 cm; 71 x 86 cm (frame).
Pedro Sanchez began his training at the School of Fine Arts in Valencia, in 1916, and there he developed his incipient artistic sensibility as a disciple of Garnelo, Renau and Benlliure. He later extended his studies in Madrid and Italy, where he remained thanks to a scholarship from the Academy of San Fernando. In the early thirties he made the international leap, exhibiting his work in Pittsburgh (USA), and since then he has shown his work in solo and group exhibitions around the world, such as the exhibitions of the Society of Independent Artists in Copenhagen, Berlin and Paris. He specialized in the figure, particularly in portraiture, without forgetting landscape and still life. He was awarded in 1936 with the third prize at the International Exhibition of the Carnegie Institute of Pittsburgh, and later became a member of Eugenio d'Ors' Academia Breve. He is represented in the MAPFRE Foundation, the Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Vilafamés, among others.
