Entitled "The Kiss, episode of youth", better known as "The Kiss", is an oil on canvas painted by the Italian artist Francesco Hayez in 1859 and is in the Pinacoteca di Brera, Milan. The scene, set in a medieval context, shows two young lovers kissing. Due to its great emotional charge, the refined scenography and its significant civil value (the canvas is full of risorgimental nuances, symbolizing patriotic love and the fight against the foreigner), this work is considered the manifesto of Italian Romantic art. For this reason, the work had a great popular success, so much so that there are several versions made by Hayez and by followers of his work, as in the case of the painting that concerns us.
