A painter of landscapes, still lifes and oriental figures, Agustín Alegre studied at the School of Arts and Crafts of Teruel and at the School of Fine Arts of San Carlos in Valencia, a city to which he has been linked since the beginning of his career. There, in fact, he has exhibited regularly for the last thirty years at the Segrelles del Pilar gallery. Throughout his long career Alegre has been awarded on numerous occasions, receiving among others the Goerlich Prize of the Círculo de Bellas Artes de Valencia (1955), the Senyera de Pintura del Ayuntamiento de Valencia (1957), the Diputación de Teruel in the II Bienal del Tajo (Toledo, 1972), the First Prize for Painting in the XXIII Exposición de Pintores de áfrica de Madrid (1973), the Preciados and Preciados Galleries Prizes, the First Prize for Painting in the XXIII Exposición de Pintores de áfrica de Madrid (1973), the Preciados Galleries and Madrid City Council Awards at the XIV and XV San Isidro Exhibition (Madrid, 1977 and 1978), the Gold Badge of Fine Arts (Segrelles del Pilar Gallery, Valencia, 1978), the First National Prize for Drawing Bernardo Zapater (Albarracín, 1983) and the First National Medal for Painting at the LI Salón de Otoño de Madrid (1984). More recently he has obtained the Medal for Cultural Merit, awarded by the Diputación de Aragón, the Gold Medal of Los Amantes de Teruel and the Gold Medal of the City given by the City Council of this same city, which in 2004 commissioned him a work as a wedding gift to the Prince and Princess of Asturias. Since 1996 he has been a member of the Real Academia de Nobles y Bellas Artes de San Luis de Zaragoza, and has exhibited throughout Spain and also in Milan, Florence, Brescia and Paris. He is currently represented in the Museum of Fine Arts of Zaragoza, the Pablo Gargallo and other collections, both public and private.
