Waldo Aguiar Carmona was a painter, sculptor and engraver from Madrid. He studied at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, where he graduated as a professor of drawing. His career took off with the sponsorship of the Spanish Embassy in Brazil and the award of the Gold Medal at the IX Exhibition of painters of Africa in Madrid. He received various pensions and scholarships to continue his training and work, including a stay in Paris in 1962 and the March scholarship in 1963. In 1970, he won the chair of drawing at the National Institute of Secondary Education in Portugalete, where he lived until 1977. He was a member of the Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando and of the Commission of Historical and Artistic Monuments of Vizcaya.
His work, of expressionist style, focuses on the female figure, still lifes, landscapes and flowers, and is present in important museums and collections such as the Reina Sofia Museum and the Museum of Africa. During his stay in Portugalete, his art was impregnated with Basque themes, standing out for its strength and muralist vigor. Mario Ángel Marrodán praised his ability to capture the essence of Basque culture and life, especially in his depictions of the blast furnaces of Vizcaya. His last major exhibition was held in 2010, at the Espacio Cultural MIRA in Pozuelo de Alarcón, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of his death.
