Trained at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, Anton Martineau was a painter, draftsman, lithographer, sculptor and poet who exhibited with Saura and Tapies at the Stadler gallery in Paris in 1967. He was also associated with members of the CoBrA group such as Karel Appel, Corneille or Constant. He lived and worked in Paris. His language is framed within expressionism making a strong contribution to the international "new figuration" in the line of Soutinie, Lindström or Maryan. His muse was the painter Eleonora Stol, with whom he formed an artistic couple. The recurring themes in his work are eroticism, death, the masculine, the feminine, the shadow of our existence or confrontation. In 2014 he exhibited at the Sala Dalmau in Barcelona.
