BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

JESÚS ALCÁNTARA (Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz, 1948).
"Animal composition", 1974.
Acrylic on canvas.
Signed in the lower right corner. Signed, dated and titled on the back.
Measurements: 130 x 97 cm; 142 x 109 cm (frame).

Photographer by profession, Jesús Alcántara began his artistic career as a painter. From 1969 to 1978 he devoted himself entirely to this discipline. The painter himself says "Although practically all my work is done in Madrid, all the stages of my work are impregnated with the memory of Malaga and my relationship with the sea. The following is a sample of this. The sea and the compositions related to it, constitute one of the several series that are evident in my painting". The critic Yolanda Farr affirmed: "In the 20 years that Jesús Alcántara has been doing the photographic work of El Teatro de la Zarzuela we all said that his paintings looked like paintings. Well, now it is true. Combining his two artistic aspects he has achieved a symbiosis in which it is not possible to discern where the painter begins and where the photographer ends. With a formidably dreamlike vision, he has chosen moments from well-known zarzuelas to turn them into works of art, in the reverie of an artist with an eye and a brush".
