With a degree in Fine Arts, Juan Humarán enjoyed a scholarship in Pennsylvania, USA, where he did a master's degree. After a period in the US city, he returned to Spain, where he settled in Laukiz, Basque Country, in 1975. There, together with other American, Mexican and Basque artists, he set up the Errementariñe farmhouse workshop school, where they wove gobelin tapestries, among other activities. He later devoted himself to portraiture and bullfighting.
