BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Central European school of Pre-Raphaelite style of the late 19th century.
"Female bust", 1899.
Watercolor on paper.
Signed with monogram and dated in the upper right corner.
Measurements: 36 x 26 cm; 56 x 40 cm (frame).
Aesthetically the work is framed within the Pre-Raphaelite current linked to a group of British artists of the nineteenth century, mainly painters and poets, which was formed in 1848. Their aim was to react against the prevailing academicism and seek a return to the artistic purity and authenticity that, according to them, was found in art before Raphael. One of the most characteristic paintings of this style is Millais' Ophelia. In the case of this watercolor, the absolute center of the representation is its poetic content, captured through a beautiful woman.
