DESCRIPTION
Spanish school of the 19th century.
"Samson and Delilah".
Oil on canvas.
Presents faults in the frame.
Measurements: 125 x 94 cm; 138 x 108 cm (frame).
The work in tender is inspired by the homonymous canvas painted by Anton Van Dyck around 1630, now preserved in the Kunthistorisches Museum in Vienna. It depicts Samson being seized by soldiers with ropes as he tries to stay with Delilah. In the meantime, Delilah, bribed by the Philistines, has Samson's scalp cut off, leaving him stripped of his strength and at the mercy of his enemies.
