ALBÉRIC-VICTOR DUYVER ( Belgium, 1859 - 1939)
"Girl with a bouquet of flowers", 1884.
Oil on canvas.
Signed and dated in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 145 x 105 cm; 172 x 134 cm (frame).
Impressionist portrait of a girl with a bouquet, dated 1884. The simplicity and the reality that emanate from the painting give this work a timelessness. The velvety navy blue of her dress, with the white lace collar and cuffs, the delicate golden pendants, the shiny shoes and the small bouquet of roses bring a great delicacy to the work, creating an atmosphere that emphasizes childlike innocence. The model's luminous face and the white embroidery of her dress stand out against the crimson red of the backdrop. Her rosy face is enhanced by the dazzling white of the lace.
The Belgian impressionist painter Albéric-Victor Duyver studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. Influenced by the French artists of the Barbizon school, he became famous for his paintings of landscapes and scenes of rural life, as well as for his portraits. Albéric-Victor Duyver participated in numerous national and international exhibitions, including the 1900 Paris Universal Exposition. As a member of the Salon des artistes français, he was awarded in 1894. In 1903, he received the City of Ghent prize for his landscape paintings. In 1921, he was made a Knight of the Order of Leopold, one of Belgium's highest civilian decorations.
