BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION

"Interior scene".

Measurements: 46 x 53 cm; 65 x 72 x 6 cm (frame).
During the seventeenth century came to Holland from Flanders various influences, mainly thematic. Within the Flemish school there was at this time a great specialization of the painters, centered in themes of still lifes, architectures, genre paintings, etc. Within this last thematic range, genre paintings such as the ones we now present stand out. It shows a family in a modest interior: the father holds a jug in his right hand, while with his left hand he brings a glass to his wife. She looks at him with a compassionate face, while the child eats a spoon dish, oblivious to the scene behind. As dictated by the Flemish school, a glazed window opens on the left side of the composition, a resource that provides a rural background and increases the perspective of the piece.
