BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Spanish school of the 19th century. Follower of BARTOLOMÉ ESTEBAN MURILLO (Seville, 1617-1682).
"Children eating grapes and melon".
Oil on canvas.
Golden frame with some faults.
Measurements: 25 x 20 cm; 37 x 32 cm (frame).
Copy of a painting by Murillo preserved in the Alte Pinakothek in Munich. It is the recurrent topic of the beggars that so well knew how to portray the baroque painter in picaresque attitudes. The painter has rescued this naturalistic work, attentive to the veristic details and the qualities of the worn clothes, the torn rags and the bare feet. The basket overflowing with fruit is a still life in itself. The artist has reinterpreted the baroque search for chiaroscuro and the Caravaggist influence.
