Disciple of Antonio Caba in Barcelona, Joan Baixas completed his studies in Paris and Madrid. He lived and worked in Venezuela between 1889 and 1891, year in which he returns again to Barcelona. In Barcelona he founded the famous Baixas Academy, where he trained great painters of the following generations, such as Torres-García, Iu Pascual and Ignasi Mallol. In 1919 the Agrupación de Acuarelistas de Cataluña was created on his initiative, of which he was the first president. He cultivated a neat and balanced style, focused on a landscape rich in bright colors and very worked, as well as agile lighting effects. He is represented in the municipal art museums of Barcelona.
