BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Spanish school, first half of the XIX century.
"Still life".
Oil on canvas.
It has a frame of the nineteenth century.
Measurements: 83 x 103 cm; 110 x 135 cm (frame).
On an indeterminate background that almost melts with the horizontal surface in which the objects are, oranges are placed in a ceramic fruit bowl, a pitcher and a metal tray that stands out for its shiny and polished surface. The detail of the elements, the composition, the humility and simplicity of the fruits and objects chosen for the work, the background, the light, etc. relate the present work to the tradition of Baroque still lifes. Specifically, they are reminiscent of Spanish examples from the first half of the 17th century, prior to the arrival of Flemish influences, which would complicate the composition and add more "exotic" or luxurious objects.
The still life or still life occupied the lowest rung of the hierarchy of genres in the history of art, however, it was becoming increasingly popular among buyers. In addition to the independent subject of still life, it addressed other types of painting themes by using prominent, usually symbolic, elements and images that drew on a multitude of elements of nature apparently to reproduce a part of life. The term appeared as early as the end of the 16th century. Highly appreciated within the antiquarian market, as well as among collectors and art historians, the still life school enjoyed a spectacular development.
