The artist's interest in drawing, the palette of colors chosen in it, the interest in showing the light, etc. place the present work under a pictorial tradition of landscape painting. It is a scene of a costumbrista character and of realistic and meticulous workmanship, which focused on the representation of subjects, themes and characters that reflect a new sense of folklore. In this context, the painters seek to reflect the types and customs of their own land, which make it different and unique, thus vindicating their own roots and, above all, the traditions and ways of dressing and behaving that were threatened by the notable growth of urban areas and the imposition of new fashions brought from outside.
Lorenzo Gignous was the nephew of the painter Eugenio Gignous. He studied at the Brera Academy. He participated in important national exhibitions and quickly established himself as a landscape painter with a repertoire of views of Lake Maggiore.
