BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

DANIEL TURNER (active in England between 1782-1801).
"View of Westminster."
Oil on canvas.
Measurements: 26 x 35 cm; 35 x 43 cm (frame).
We are in front of a view of the Westminster Abbey realized, most probably, by the English landscape painter Daniel Turner. Heirs of Canaletto's vedute, Turner's works have a rational structure, always designed to enhance the monumentality of what is represented, whether it is an urban view (as in this case, a view of the city of London crossed by the River Thames) or a coastal landscape. The author reproduces the composition, the transparent and luminous atmosphere, the coloring and the detailed description of the London environment. Thus, we find ourselves before a work starring the scenographic composition typical of the Venetian "veduta", imposing and open, allowing the detailed vision of space, an artistic concept that came to London as a result of Canaletto's English stay. Daniel Turner is currently represented at the Tate Gallery in London.
