The landscape genre took special relevance in France during the 19th century, mainly because of the repercussion of the Barbizon school, whose postulates influence this composition. In it, the painter strives to capture with realism and subtlety the elusive changes of light at dusk and the rich range of greens carpeting the valley. He also skilfully translates the atmospheric veils that allow the scene to breathe, marking the depth and outlining the profile of the mountains in the distance.
