BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

After VAN DYCK (Antwerp, 1599 - London, 1641), 17th century.
"Holy Family".
Oil on canvas.
Measurements: 103 x 86 cm; 130 x 111 cm (frame).

The representation of the Holy Family that we are now bidding for is based on the homonymous canvas painted by Anton Van Dyck around 1627. However, the characteristic cold palette, even pearly, characteristic of van Dyck is not appreciated here, but the author of this work shows a warm palette, mainly of earthy, ochre and carmine tones, and plays with the light in a certain tenebrist way, creating more violent hallmarks than van Dyck, and focusing through them even more the attention on the figure of the Child and the face of Mary.
