This work copies the model created by Jean Leon Gerome Ferris (1863-1930), painter recognized for his works of historical character. The scene, of neoclassical aesthetics, represents an important moment in the life of a family. Several generations of the same family are gathered in a room, around an elderly character who turns with a gesture of fatigue towards a couple. Among them, on a table, documents are displayed in front of this character, which seem to be the origin of the consternation of the rest of the protagonists of the scene. The young woman prepares to sign with pen in hand, while the notary looks at him impatiently and the thick future adopts a gesture of impatience. Both the men and the ladies wear clothes that appear to be of quality, denoting their good position. The scene has a realistic and emotive tinge, typical of a broad current of European painting in the second half of the 19th century that remained outside the Impressionist innovations and was always interested in the representation of popular themes, close, with a style inherited from realism.
