Oil on copper realized in a circular support. In which is represented a mythological scene centered on the god Saturn, a prominent figure in Roman mythology, known as Chronos in Greek mythology.
The central figure is Saturn, depicted as an old man with a white beard, wings and a serene expression. He is seated on a rock, with an infant on his lap. Saturn iconography is often associated with melancholy, old age and time. Saturn holds an infant, possibly a cupid or a child of his, alluding to the myth of Saturn devouring his children.
In the upper left, a cupid flies into the scene, adding an element of grace and movement to the composition. The background shows a lush landscape with trees, mountains and a pale blue sky. This landscape serves to frame the main scene and add depth to the composition.
On the far left, a stone vase is visible, adding an element of still life to the work. The painting shows characteristics of the late baroque or Italian rococo style, with its palette of soft colors, delicate brushstrokes and the depiction of idealized figures. Light plays a crucial role, illuminating the main figures and creating a soft contrast with the darker background.
This 18th century Italian painting offers a delicate and elegant interpretation of the Saturn myth, combining mythological, landscape and still life elements in a harmonious composition.
