The protagonist figure of this scene is shown in a rounded way in its forms, covering almost the entire background. Portrayed with a long bust, the author only introduces the sewing element that the woman supports on her own body. Concentrated on her domestic work, her serene and concentrated gesture avoids the viewer by turning her gaze over her own shoulder.

In the middle of the 17th century the first bambocciate appeared, that is to say, pictorial representations of scenes of popular life that fled from the pictorial culture of northern Europe. One of the first known authors to represent the work of the spinners was Diego Velázquez, with his characteristic work of the same name, which is in the Museo del Pradro.
