BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
SHIGEYOSHI KOYAMA (Osaka, Japan, 1940).
"Bay of Cadaqués", 1980.
Etching, copy 30/30.
Signed and numbered by hand.
Measurements: 35,6 x 34,5 cm (print); 49,5 x 60 cm (paper).
After finishing his studies in Tokyo, Koyama traveled to Paris in 1970, and six months later he moved to Cadaqués, where he remained until 1982. During this period he held his first exhibition in Japan, specifically in Tokyo. He finally returned to Cadaqués, settling permanently in 1986. Koyama is inspired by the Mediterranean light, but his oriental tradition is evident in his own conception of the pictorial space. He does not approach perspective from the Renaissance canons, but develops the theme from the resolution of the planes. Therefore, in his works we find a different way of representing reality: not as the eye perceives it, but as it is interpreted by knowledge and sensibility. Currently, Koyama exhibits regularly at the Sala Rusiñol in Barcelona.
