BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

PEDRO ÁLVAREZ CASTELLO (Cuba, 1968-2004).
"El telegrama", 2003 and "In the reign of freedom and necessity".
Silkscreen on paper. Copies 35/99 and 31/99.
Signed and justified.
Measurements: 108 x 80 cm; 80 x 108 cm.
Trained at the National School of Fine Arts of San Alejandro, in addition to studying at the Enrique José Varona Higher Pedagogical Institute. He was a member of the National Association of Writers and Artists of Cuba. His career as an artist has been promoted through trips and stays, as the artist lived between Spain and Havana.
Alvarez Castello's works show compositions in which he makes use of pop culture references such as comic book clippings from The Simpsons in juxtaposition with traditional Cuban images of troubadours and peasants from the 19th century. His iconographic vocabulary used in his works represents a collage of found images using clippings from magazines, books, old postcards, bank receipts, etcetera.
Alvarez's works are shown in museums and institutions around the world, such as the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Havana, Museo Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo in Seville, the Arizona State University Art Museum, the Lauderdale Museum of Art in Florida, as well as the Museo de la Universidad de Alicante. In addition, he has had numerous solo exhibitions in Spain and Cuba, and more than forty group exhibitions in Germany, Canada, England and the United States.
