Julio Pomar Culebras was educated in the Superior School of Fine Arts of Lisbon and Oporto and it was in this last city where he began his artistic career with an individual exhibition in 1947. Later he participated in solo and group exhibitions, mainly in Portugal, but also in Paris. Between 1945 and 1957 his painting was essentially figurative, being one of the main representatives of Portuguese Neorealism. Later his work evolved in other directions.
