After beginning his training as a self-taught artist, Palencia moved to Madrid at the age of fifteen. In the capital he enters the Academia Libre de Julio Moisés, where he coincided with other outstanding painters such as Salvador Dalí. In 1926 he traveled to Paris and met Picasso and Miró, and on his return to Madrid he made his individual debut at the Museum of Modern Art (1928). He then made several study trips to Italy, Berlin and New York. In 1941 he founded the Vallecas School, and in 1943 he was First Medalist at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts. In 1974 he was appointed member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, and a few years later of the Academy of San Jorge in Barcelona. Palencia is represented in the Reina Sofia National Museum, in the Patio Herreriano in Valladolid and in the Fine Arts Museums of Valencia and Albacete, among many others.
Born in Milagros, Burgos, Vela Zanetti moved to León with his family when he was a child. There he held his first exhibition in 1931. Supported by his father, after finishing high school he traveled to Madrid for a few months to see exhibitions and visit the Prado Museum. Shortly afterwards he obtained a scholarship to visit Italy, granted by the Provincial Council of León. As a consequence of the Spanish Civil War he left for the Dominican Republic, where he remained until 1960.
An outstanding painter and graphic artist, Luis García Ochoa belonged to the so-called Madrid School. He began his training at the School of Architecture and Fine Arts in Madrid, and extended it with scholarships from the French Government, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Education and the Juan March Foundation. A full member of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, he has received awards such as the Gran Premio del Ayuntamiento de San Sebastián, the Dirección General de Bellas Artes Engraving Award and the Biennial of Alexandria, among others. He is currently represented at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Madrid, the Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao and the Fundación Juan March.
Eberhard Schlotter was attracted by the arts since he was a child, and in fact in 1934 he published his first drawing in a newspaper. He was a free student of Wilhelm Maiggater at the Arts and Crafts and Industrial Schools of Hildesheim, and from this first teacher he learned the rudiments of steel and diamond needle engraving and the etching technique. Soon he would create his first engravings, and also during these years he held his first individual exhibition. In 1939 he entered the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, and two years later he was the youngest participant in the Great Exhibition of German Art held in the same city.
