BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
BUSH RADIO TV22 television set; England, early 1950s.
Bakelite.
Measurements: 40 x 40 x 43 cm.
Manufactured by the English firm Bush Radio from 1950, the TV model TV22 has 16 valves, superheterodyne reception principle in general and permanent image elliptical loudspeaker. It is a tall table-top television of simple form, and is the successor of the TV12 model of 1949. Considered today as an emblem of vintage television, and a design icon, its futuristic forms, typical of the final Art Deco, are the result of the nascent optimism of post-war England. It has a well-built, solid Bakelite structure and a compact form that allowed the set to be moved easily, which has also facilitated its survival to this day. As a result, the screen is only 9 inches, although the Mullard tube ensures a high quality image. This iconic model was the inspiration for the Retrovisor, a retro-style television made in England in the 1990s.
