DESCRIPTION
JEP horse racing betting game. France, first quarter of the 20th century.
Painted metal.
In its original cardboard box.
It works.
Exhibits wear consistent with age and use and good preservation.
Measurements: 24 x 37 x 37 cm (game); 17 x 37 x 37 x 37 cm (box).
The game system is simple: the players place their bets in the central cup and the horses are placed on the starting line. The side lever is then operated several times until the race is over. The horse closest to the flag wins the race, and the player who bet on him wins the contents of the cup. The game retains the original polychrome and the flag, a missing element in the vast majority of racing games of this type.
The Jouets de Paris (JEP) brand was created in 1920 as a toy division of the Société Industrielle de Ferblanterie company founded in 1909. It specialized in the production of toy trains and automobiles, the latter including those produced in the brand's heyday in the late 1920s. The company ceased its commercial activities in 1965.
