This Spanish frame from the last third of the XVII century is a masterpiece of wood carving, polychrome and gilded, reflecting the baroque taste of the time. Its structure is composed of a rectangular profile molding with profusely ornamented finials, including scrolls, vegetal motifs and a richly sculpted upper cartouche.
The golden ornamentation stands out against the polychrome background, generating a strong contrast that emphasizes the depth of the reliefs. At the upper and lower ends, there are decorative elements of vegetal inspiration, typical of Spanish baroque imagery. The central part houses a showcase with a background of embroidered fabric, where devotional figures are observed, including the silhouette of Christ crucified and other religious elements arranged symmetrically.
The combination of materials and techniques, together with the ornate design, reveals the influence of Baroque aesthetics in Spanish sacred art, in which ornamental exuberance sought to exalt spirituality and devotion. This frame, probably conceived to house relics or votive offerings, reflects the liturgical and devotional function that characterized many of the art objects in Golden Age Spain.
