DESCRIPTION

Set of two boxes of technical drawing instruments. C. RIEFLER and THIELE. Germany and Denmark, late 19th century.
Complete.
Steel instruments, bone details.
In their original wooden boxes lined with imitation leather.
Boxes have flaws and flaws.
Use and wear marks in general.
Measurements: 2 x 25 x 10 cm.

Two cases of technical drawing instruments and compasses made of steel. The cases are upholstered with imitation leather. Both lids bear the manufacturers' marks, Riefler and Thiele respectively. The interiors include compasses of various types, adapters, drawing pencils and nibs. All the instruments fit in their specific housing. The cases retain all of their parts, in functional condition. Cases with wear and tear typical of use and of the period. The damage does not affect the condition of the instruments.

C. Riefler is one of the most recognized firms of European scientific instruments of the 20th century. Founded in 1841 by Clemens Riefler, this Bavarian firm specialized in drawing instruments of the highest precision, known for their durability, mechanical smoothness and meticulous finish. Since the end of the 19th century, Riefler established itself as a supplier to technical institutions and universities in Europe and America, and was also recognized for its precision pendulum clocks - used in observatories and laboratories - and for its participation in international industrial fairs. Its compasses, manufactured to the highest standards, stand out for their modular construction, the quality of their materials and a mechanical precision that is difficult to match even today.
