These French candlesticks are a splendid example of the style that prevailed during the Second French Empire, also known as the Napoleon III period (1852-1870). Crafted in gilt bronze, patinated bronze and verde antico, they masterfully combine the neoclassical and baroque ornamental elements characteristic of 19th century decorative design. This pair of candelabra stands on a base with plinth and triple claw. The shaft is conceived as a column divided into three clearly differentiated parts: a base with palmettes in gilded bronze, a smooth shaft in antico green marble and a Corinthian capital also in gilded bronze. The composition is crowned by a three-light body embellished with palmettes. The lighters are ornamented with flamboyant decoration in its lower middle part. A helicoidal pineapple tops each one of the candelabra in its central part, although they have different sizes.
