Automaton toy from the Spanish house Payà, manufactured in the fifties. It represents a student moving to the city to start a university career. The two suitcases have wheels. It was operated by a winding mechanism. Made of screen-printed tinplate, the painting defines every detail of the clothing and the face.
The Payá Hermanos company was an iconic Spanish firm founded in Ibi, Alicante, at the end of the 19th century. This company was one of the leading manufacturers of tinplate toys in Europe, famous for its handcrafted cars, trains, dolls and automatons that marked the childhood of many generations.
