DESCRIPTION

Tower model; late 19th century.
Wood
Measurements: 150 cm.
150 cm high model, representing a tower with a realistic and detailed design. The base, sturdy and circular, is formed by columns of classical appearance, joined by arches that evoke Renaissance architecture. Above this base rises an intermediate structure composed of pillars and arches that support the focal point: a slender conical wooden roof. The slats of this roof converge at the top, forming a spire that enhances the verticality and imposing character of the model. With a harmonious combination of materials that simulate stone and wood, this piece conveys balance and precision, ideal for admiring the art of miniature construction.
Architectural models such as this one (armature supporting the roof of a building) were made by the "Compagnons du Devoir", French apprentices or master craftsmen, to apply for a title from their respective guild. After a period of training in France or Europe in general, these craftsmen made increasingly complex models. Before ending their educational travels and settling in a city, they were required to submit a masterpiece or Piece de Maitrise. And if approved, they were entitled to open their own store or workshop.
