Gothic chest from the XVI century, made of polychrome wood, with an architectural design. The body is rectangular, with a doorway and a gabled lid that evokes the structure of a roof, a typical design of medieval chests used both for storage and to protect documents and valuables. Raised on button-shaped feet, providing stability and a separation from the ground to prevent dampness, a common feature in Gothic furniture. In the painted decoration, two figures of Roman warriors, possibly heroes or mythical characters, stocky and carrying shields, stand out against a landscape background. They flank a door suggested by moldings that divide them into panels, emulating the facades of early Renaissance buildings. The doors open to reveal a blue interior painted with stars. The side paintings also house doors, but are more discreet. The combination of classical iconography with architectural elements indicates the influence of Renaissance humanism on late Gothic art.
