Italian type of the XVII century with later modifications made in walnut wood with bone inlay. The piece of furniture is divided into two sections; the lower and the upper one with a folding door that can be used as a desk. This door leaves the interior compartmentalized. It is a piece of furniture that served as a desk or storage cabinet, generally used by the nobility or the bourgeoisie to store documents, jewelry and valuables.
Stipi were highly valued furniture in the Renaissance and Baroque periods, especially in Italy. They were symbols of status and refinement, as well as being functional and used as showpieces in grand salons or private studies. Their elaboration usually involved highly skilled craftsmen working with wood, ivory, mother-of-pearl and precious metals.
The design of these cabinets reflects the craftsmanship and cultural influences of their time, combining architectural elements with pictorial motifs. Today, stipi are prized in museums and private collections as a testament to the luxury and sophistication of historic European furniture.
