English writing desk of the "Davenport" type. It is a model that was born in the 18th century in British soil and it has lateral drawers. It has an inclined front cover to function as a desk, upholstered with green leather. It also has drawers on the inside. It has two structural and decorative uprights in the form of classical columns. It is topped by a brass balustrade. It rises on casters.
The name of this piece of furniture, Davenport, derives from the first known model, made by Gillows for Captain Davenport. It was a very comfortable piece of furniture for writing, of small size, and from it derived a portable model with which to write on campaign or on a ship. Its functionality made it a very popular piece of furniture in the 19th century.
