BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Art Deco period grille, ca. 1930.
Wrought iron and gilded.
Measurements: 173 x 111 cm.
Refined wrought iron work, based on the representation of a bird of paradise surrounded by volutes and spiral borders forming an attractive tracery. By the crest and the long tail we identify a peacock, so the deployment of spirals would simulate the exuberance of its feathers, evoking its magical splendor in an abstract but highly plastic way. The grille is inspired by oriental aesthetics, although sifted by the European taste of the Art Deco period. Because of its proportions, it could have been used as a garden gate. This type of decoration was also used for aristocratic balustrades and for the headboards of sumptuous beds.
