Bureau, made of walnut wood, is a splendid example of the Louis XVI style, a period of design that reigned in France during the second half of the 18th century. It reflects the turn of the period towards Neoclassicism, drawing inspiration from the art and architecture of Greek and Roman antiquity. The desk features a cylindrical top design, popular at this time. This type of desk usually includes a rotating or sliding cylindrical section that conceals the writing surface and drawers. The top sports a delicate openwork crest, which adds a touch of elegance and lightness. The ornamentation is restrained, focusing on clean lines and subtle details. The intricate marquetry work on the cylinder and drawer fronts stands out, with geometric and stylized floral motifs.
