Desk with small columns decorated on the exterior with bronze appliqués. The exterior decoration is completed, on the sides, with arched handles with central lentil and lateral hinges. It stands on a period base with typically baroque turned legs, joined by straight shoes with carved front. The front is characterized by its great richness, with a decoration based on small columns, turned and gilded. The most usual in this type of bargueños is that they are decorated with drawers and a central door. The personality of the Spanish style will be so strong in the 17th century that it will prevent the penetration of outside influences, especially from France due to the bad diplomatic situation at the time, and this will have a great influence on the rest of Europe, where the French models will dominate. The 17th century in Spain was a time of decadence, and this will be noticed to a great extent in the furniture. There will not be pieces as luxurious as in other countries, a fact also determined by the pragmatics against luxury dictated by the monarchs. However, the Spanish furniture of the Baroque period presents a not inconsiderable quality, an enormous personality and, above all, a great interest from the point of view of typologies and the search for functionality over decoration.
