BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Brasero; Spain, c. 1600 and 18th century legs.
Bronze, copper, brass, wood.
Presents rust and loss of one of the handles.
Measurements: 51,5 x 84 x 84 cm.
Spanish brazier made of gilded bronze, copper, brass and wood. All it worked presents a rich decorative display based on acanthus leaves and Renaissance-inspired motifs such as scallops or cherub heads. The octagonal brazier rises on figuratively worked feet simulating feline claws. The lower body houses different sculptures of round bulk of classical inspiration that give way to an upper area with openwork skirt. On this base rests the brazier itself, with a removable center for easy handling and cleaning that has two handles.
The metal domestic brazier was a concave container generally provided with a lid with slits through which the heat escaped. There were some more modest ones that simply had a metal wire mesh to avoid burning. It was common that, to avoid contact with the ground, the most expensive models included a foot or support, sometimes highly decorated with shapes of animal paws or claws.
