DESCRIPTION

Pair of friar armchairs; Spain, second half of the sixteenth century.
Carved wood, silk velvet and embroidery.
They show faults, wear and damage caused by xylophages.
Measurements: 107 x 65 x 62 cm (x2).
Pair of fraileros with wooden structure nailed to the uprights and lateral crosspieces of the waist. Both seats have slightly curved arms, simple and without carving. They have straight legs, typical of the Spanish frailero, joined by a wide frontal chambrana typical of this typology, which in this case is carved in relief and trimmed. They have embroidered velvet upholstery and backrests embroidered with the representation of the coat of arms of Francisco Jimenesz de Cisneros, better known as Cardinal Cisneros, was Cardinal, Archbishop of Toledo, Regent of Castile, Primate of Spain and third Inquisitor General of Castile, belonging to the Franciscan Order.
