The Roca table up for bid represents the power, greatness, wealth and religion of Egypt at the time of the New Kingdom, that is, since 1567 BC. until 1085 BC In its four corners there are in relief the sphinx of four pharaohs: Amosis, I, the warrior pharaoh who expelled the Hiesos and founded the New Kingdom; Akhenaten, the revolutionary pharaoh who consecrated Aten and abolished the religion of Amun, changing the capital of the Empire from Thebes to Tel Almarna; Tutankhamun, famous pharaoh whose tomb has been found in the Valley of the Kings intact, and Ramses II, the greatest of the pharaohs of Egypt, the one who enlarged temples as wonderful as that of Luxor and built the majestic Abu Simbel in honor of the God Amun. Four relief carvings are located on the sides of the table and are offerings to the God Ra by Pharaoh Ramses. In one of them he offers nuts, in another vine, in another legumes and in the last fruit. Around and near the edge of the table you can see a cartouche-shaped hieroglyph that narrates the life, conquests and good deeds of the four previously mentioned pharaohs. These cartridges are the same as those found in their respective graves. The four legs are the columns that exist in the temple of Abu Simbel, the capital being the papyrus flower.
The history of JRoca Joyero dates back to 1888, when Jacinto Roca Fuster, at the age of 25, founded the La Marina watch shop, located on Ample Street. In 1909 it changed premises and moved to the two lower floors of the pre-modernist building at number 36 on the Rambla in the center, in front of the Liceo. In 1915 he expanded the business by incorporating fine jewelry creations. Rogelio Roca Plans, his eldest son, had a great vision for the future and moved the store to the corner of Las Ramblas and Pasaje Bacardi. The new sign already incorporated the word “jewelry”. After the war, the store experienced a surprising boom, with great designs and stones of exceptional quality. In 1959, at the age of 19, Rogelio Roca Salamanca, grandson of the founder, started working in the jewelry store. He was the first Spanish gemologist from the University of Barcelona and founder of the Spanish Gemological Association. In the 1960s, following the rise of the custom of making wedding lists, J.ROCA entered the silversmithing sector with force.
