BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Pair of large armchairs transition baroque-Louis XVI, 1760-1770.
Gilded wood. Fabric upholstery.
Upholstery with marked damage. In need of restoration.
Measurements: 100 x 67 x 68 cm.
Pair of wide and large armchairs defined by the transition from baroque style to Louis XVI, more stylized and refined, inspired by classicism. The structure of both armchairs is light and stylized, with inverted truncated conical column legs, rosettes on the knees and recessed arms. The shape of the backrest, rounded oval, is also typical of the Louis XVI chair. All the parts that make up the structure are subtly molded.
The French Louis XVI style is included in Neoclassicism. The decorative elements, as already indicated, are classicist in inspiration, but the curves and sinuosities of the rococo of Louis XV have not disappeared, although these are secondary in the design of the furniture. Unlike the usual, in the present example the legs are not bronze, nor are the front projections of the Transitional style prior to Louis XV.
