Piano from the Parisian house of Périchon, it combines fine woods with stylised floral marquetry all over the front, the base and the sides. Two slightly cambered columns with ribs support the keyboard in the form of an arch. The maker's mark is engraved on the back of the lid. Périchon Aîné was a piano and organ builder, who is recorded in exhibitions and awards in various French cities between 1844 and 1849. He received a diploma of honour in Nantes (1860), a silver medal in St-Lo (1852), a bronze medal in St-Lo (1861), a gold medal in Paris (1864), and a silver medal in Gueret (1869).
