DESCRIPTION

JUAN BAUTISTA DE VALDA, (1612 - 1669).
Solenes festivities celebrated in Valencia to the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary.
Facsimile. Copy 111/300.
Measurements: 21 x 16 x 6 cm.

The work Solenes fiestas celebrated in Valencia to the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary was published in 1990 by the publishing house Diselva-Cooperativa de San José, based in Godella, Spain. This facsimile edition reproduces the original printed in 1663 by Geronimo Vilagrasa in Valencia, under the supervision of the author Juan Bautista de Valda. The facsimile is presented in quarto format, with leather binding and is limited to 300 numbered copies; copy no. 146 is in perfect condition.

The contents of the book describe in detail the festivities celebrated in Valencia in honor of the Immaculate Conception, according to the papal decree of Alexander VII. It includes sermons delivered by figures such as Melchor Fuster, Fray Cirilo Pasqual de Alicante and Fray Miguel de Fuentes, as well as poetic compositions in Catalan and Spanish. In addition, events such as gypsy dances, guild parades with floats and theatrical performances are documented, offering a rich insight into 17th century Valencian culture and religiosity.

In summary, this modern edition of Solenes fiestas celebrated in Valencia to the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary is a valuable historical and cultural source, which allows us to appreciate the religious and festive traditions of the Baroque period in the city of Valencia.
