The work Apocalypsis Beati Liebanensis or Apocalypse of St. John the Apostle is a facsimile edition published in 1992 by Vicent García publishing house, which reproduces the medieval manuscript known as the Beatus of Osma. This codex, attributed to Beato de Liébana, an 8th century monk, is one of the most complete and artistically significant versions of the Commentary on the Apocalypse. The original is preserved in the Library of the Holy Church Cathedral of El Burgo de Osma (Soria), and the facsimile edition was made in folio, with a limited edition of 1,380 numbered copies, accompanied by a notarial act certifying its authenticity.
The facsimile is presented in two volumes, bound in Roman parchment with lacquer bindings, preserved in a red velvet-covered case. The reproduction was made on special high quality paper, with an excellent chromatic fidelity that includes the original miniatures in full color and with details in gold. The edition also includes an additional volume with studies and transcriptions of the text by experts such as José Arranz, John Williams and Barbara A. Shailor, among others. Shailor, among others.
This facsimile edition is a work of great value for scholars of medieval history, theology and art, as it allows them to appreciate in detail the iconographic richness and theological depth of the Commentary on the Apocalypse of Beatus of Liébana. The influence of this manuscript in the High Middle Ages was significant, and its reproduction in this edition allows its study and enjoyment by a wider public.
