This is one of the bibliographical jewels on display in the Royal Library of El Escorial. The Akathistos is a beautiful Greek codex that contains a collection of hymns in praise of the Virgin Mary, connected with the rich liturgy of the Greek Orthodox Eastern Church. It has a splendid gold ornamentation that enriches in a special way its inspired miniatures.
This edition, produced under the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Sofia and with the authorization of Patrimonio Nacional, owner of the Codex R.I.19, consists of 2,000 numbered copies, plus 200 non-commercial copies for collaborators and the aforementioned organization, all authenticated by the management of the latter.
